The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, yesterday led members of the University Management on an inspection tour of the Centre for Food Technology Innovation Complex (CEFTIC), a World Bank-supported Centre of Excellence for Development Impact. The visit serves as part of the University’s commitment to strengthening research, innovation and practical training in food technology and related fields.
The Management team was received by the Director of the Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER), Professor Ogbene Igbum, who conducted the Vice-Chancellor and his entourage around the facility. During the tour, Professor Igbum highlighted the Centre’s milestones, on-going projects, challenges and its role in promoting value addition, food processing and entrepreneurial skills among students and researchers.
Key units inspected during the visit were, the Biscuits, Bread, Fabrication and Production sections of the complex.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the level of development and the practical orientation of the Centre, noting that such facilities are vital in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry practice. He reaffirmed Management’s support for the Centre in its drive to enhance innovation, research output and community impact.
